Turkey’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector in the EU, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Asia and the economy’s remarkable thanks to exports exceeding US $ 1 billion made to the North American region has become a part of it. Software, hardware, equipment and service categories including information and communication technologies for more than 75% of Turkey’s exports in the sector in the country, which exports most of which is with the EU.
Employment in the sector, which is estimated to have attracted approximately US $ 16 billion of international direct investment since the early 2000s, exceeded 139,000. Today, more than 20% of the employment in the ICT sector consists of R&D personnel, while approximately 70% of those working in the sector are under the age of 35.
Turkey’s talent pool, are supported by graduates of engineering and ICT section gradually increasing the number of universities. In 2018 alone, these departments had more than 52,000 graduates. Skilled labor and suitable labor costs competitive in the region continues to bring Turkey into the high country.
ICT sector was considered as a priority sector given by Turkey, the various attempts to encourage investment in this field. The biggest indicator of these efforts is the R&D Law, which was put into effect in 2008, and revised and supported in 2016, determining the R&D areas and bringing an incentive package. This package includes many incentives such as corporate tax exemption, VAT exemption, social security premium support.
